29th January (couldn’t afford this every week.)

Red Lanterns #27

Long awaited (for me anyway!) reunion of Guy and Ice. I loved this couple in the old JLI days. This issue has Guy and a few other Reds paying a tourist visit to Earth with chaos ensuing. This is a great turn around for this series that was flagging a bit.

Hulk and the Agents of S.M.A.S.H. #4

Didn’t read this (for Godson.)

Superman #27

Superman faced an interesting Dilemma, did he risk Lois life to save his own secret identity? Big fight with Parasite, art was a bit rough in places, but I don’t hate Parasite as a character anymore, so that’s cool.

All Star Western #27

This was the best Jonah Hex in the modern day issue so far. He meets and has a chat with Superman and visits a museum dedicated to him. Better.

photo 2

Larfleeze #7

Not sure what this is or what it’s meant to be, it might all be a bit much.

Green Team #8

Didn’t read this because frankly it’s awful

Damian son of Batman #4

Big Disappointment.

photo 5

Five Weapons #6

Interesting start to the 2nd Arc of the Five Weapons series. I enjoy this story and the art.

Saga #18

Brilliant, just brilliant

Earth 2 Annual #2

photo 3

A very interesting take on the Earth 2 Batman. I really like that it is Thomas Wayne trying to atone for his shady past. Hopefully I do not write this into Eath 1 cannon in my head.

World’s Finest Annual #1

This is a fun stroy from Earth 2 days when Power Girl was Supergirl and Huntress was Robin, art was light and the story was well done.

Batman and Robin Annual #2

This was touching, Damian had left Dick Grayson aa present to find after his death, a nice Flashback Dick as Robin story.

Catwoman #27

Gothtopia, it’s really intriguing trying to figure out what’s going on. I like the look of the new costumes.

Beware the Batman #4

Not Read (buy for Nephew.)

Aquaman #27

This is just good comicing???

photo 4

Flash #27

Start of a story arc in which Barry Allen tries to solve his mother’s murder, there seems to be a supernatural element, MMMM!!!!! (I’ll let it go if it’s good.) New art looks nice.

15th January (

photo 1

Green Lantern Corps #27

Things are ramping up nicely for the next event… yeah I know.

photo 2

Batgirl #27

I love the “Bluebird” design on the front cover. This story is certainly different and I think I’m going to enjoy Gothtopia

Batman Li’L’ Gotham #10

Just good clean fun. I’m going to ask my God son if he likes these.

Nightwing #27

Interesting story, hard to follow at times and it looks like Dick’s been made.

Justice League of America #11

Stargirl and J’onn travel across America and have battles along the way, this issue drags a bit and feels like a place holder while we wait for the main story to unfold elsewhere.

photo 3

Forever Evil Rogues Rebellion #4

This is fun in a kind of “Warriors” way.

World’s Finest #19

I like this, I like the characters, art is a bit sloppy at times.

Velvet #3

This is good looking and a good story. I’m thinking of going trade after the first 6 issues. Which I’ve not done for a while.

Superman/Wonder Woman #4

This is comics done well, both art and story are very good. This concept could fail in other hands but it is thriving in the hands of Soule and Daniel

Justice League of America #9

This looks great. More Stargirl exploring the prison of the mind that the rest of the Justice Leagues are trapped in. I like that they are giving her a big role, she’s a great character.

Green Lantern Corp #25

Zero Year tie in. Pre-Lantern John Stewart and the marines have to rescue people from a Superdome type disaster in Gotham, things go wrong. There is also a backstory of police brutality and racism involving John’s mother when she was young. A decent Moral tale. Art patchy in places but overall a fine issue.

Manhattan Projects #16

I don’t read this because it is rubbish.

Batgirl #25

Zero Year tie in, good issue, nothing special. I would have prefered regular writer Gail Simone’s take on this period of Barbara’s life. Looked fine though.

Superman Wonder Woman #2

photo 4

This was Brilliant, looked great and the story was interesting. Apollo bitch slaps Superman who gets up and proceeds to leather Apollo, Add in Doomsday and Zod, rock a doodle do!

Batman Li’l’ Gotham #8

photo 3 (1)

This is for Kids, it was a lot of fun.

Forever Evil :Arkham War #2

photo 2 (1)

Chaotic Scenes as Bane’s Army fights man-bats and also a nice prison riot. A little hard to follow all the duplicity that dealing with villains brings.

Nightwing #25

Zero Year, A perfectly serviceable young Dick Grayson story.

Vibe #9

I don’t feel this book ever really had a chance, the tone is all wrong and the story just too complex. He’s the 2nd youngest member of the JLA (Play on that and ask yourself why the youngest isn’t getting HER own book.) They should have made it fun, I think the next issue is the last.

Batman #25

Zero Year I like these stories that take place in different times. This is well drawn and written. The Harper Row back-up story was a nice touch, she’s such an interesting character. Nice to see the wee girl who when she grows up Batman punches her face.

World’s Finest #17

Huntress and Powergirl have a lot of fun as PG’s powers come and go and leave Huntress to fight the big bad, also she tries to get a tattoo, the Huntress cat/bat tattoo was awesome.

9th October (promising a lot.)

photo 1

Hulk: Agents of S.M.A.S.H. #1

This is one I bought for a kid, was quite fun hope he enjoys it.

Batman l’il Gotham #7

As above, quite like this series, not 100% behind the art choices but it’s good.

Superman Wonder Woman #1

I’m sold, this was good. They have obviously decided they need to start big and who bigger than Doomsday? Art looked smashing and the story was smart, I liked the way the panels mixed location but was still easy enough to follow, well done.

Batgirl #24

photo 2

Consistently one of the best comics on the shelves. Action and family drama are the mainstay of this book as Barabara Gordon attempts to come to terms with here Dad’s hunt and hatred of her alter-ego, for her part in the death of James Gordon Jnr. This is top quality work

Batman #24

photo 3

The conclusion of the Red Hood Year One storyline. really enjoyable and a few references to iconic scenes. With enough ambiguity left, that ultimately nothing matters too much. (The story of comics.)

Nightwing #24
A bit too much in this issue I’m kinda, not sure who that was and not sure if they told me that before or I just don’t get it. Good storyline let down by a poor ending.

Green Lantern Corps #24
Nice continuation of story, really just a massive battle issue which works well as an act 2. Some nice moments.

World’s Finest #16
This was ok, just starting a new storyline after last issues big wrap up. I’d like more comics to be like this self contained, introduce new villain, figure out how to beat villain (next month, hopefully) art was a bit of a let down.

Manhattan Projects #15
Got 2 pages in and stopped reading, then put issues 1-15 up for sale. I’m done, some of this was very good, but too much crazy nonsense for me to wade through.

14th August (Saga is back, woo hoo!)

SAM_3803

Batman li’l Gotham #5

Read this because I buy it for my Godson, I think it could be better, don’t want to be too judgemental It’s not made for me.

Justice League America #7

This was a good continuation of the Trinity War storyline, it played very 2nd act, but revelations were made and pieces were moved, still excited to read ending, which is what a part 4 of 6 should be.

Saga #13

Simply the best comic on sale, art is beautiful and the story is magnificent every twist or fantastical element fits perfectly. Brian K Vaughan is an absolute master. His letters column is worth the price of the comic alone, went from nearly in tears to laughing out loud by the last letter. Wonderful.

Batgirl #23

SAM_3806

I just know every month Gail Simone is going to handle Batgirl perfectly, she has such a great feel for the character and this is another example of this.

Nightwing #23

I can’t pretend that this influx of new characters does not have me playing a bit of “who is he? who is she?” the main story is going well though and it’s building nicely towards a gripping finale.

Batman #23

I feel as if I’ve read the Bruce gets beaten up and patched up by Alfred and has an encounter with a bat story before. I have no idea what the pink orb melding the room with the cave was, a awkward and slow issue. Although I did enjoy the E Nigma part at the start and the back up was very good.

World’s Finest #15
I like both Power Girl and Huntress a lot, so why am I not enjoying this series as much as I should be? The storyline seems to be dragging on forever, without much trace if the humour I have come to expect from a PG book. I’ll buy it till they cancel it though.
Green Lantern Corp #23

This is a lot better than I could have hoped for. I like the story as John Stewart takes centre stage in GLC

10th July (I’ll get there eventually!)

SAM_2574

Batman Li’l Gotham #4

This is ok for kids, I buy it for God son, but always have a wee read first, didn’t enjoy 2nd story Alice in Wonderland style.

Justice League #22

Really strong first part of Trinity War story, not a big fan of magic, but this looked amazing.

Batman #22

Zero year continues, really good. Back up also very good.

SAM_2575

Batgirl #22

Bloody hell this was amazing, so emotional and the best comic I’ve read this year. Magnificent.

Nightwing #22

Another bat title going well, just good quality story telling.

Superman Unchained #2

Probably the strongest Superman title out, enjoyable.

World’s Finest #14

Desaad takes the battle to PG and Huntress, I really like this title.

Green Lantern Corp #22

Things are falling apart in the Corp and it’s making for some good comics.

June 13th (big week for Superman!)

SAM_2012

All Star Superman #1 (Cover of the Week)

SAM_2014

I didn’t actually read this, they gave it away for free to promote the movie and I’ve already got the Trade paper backs. But it is gorgeous and I’ll pass it on to someone. Frank Quietly is Quite Frankly a genius. (see what I did there? probably the first person ever to say that!)

Sherlock Holmes : The Liverpool Demon #5

Glad this has finished, not a big fan of Holmes or the artist who drew this, story was okay.

World’s Finest #13

Huntress and Power Girl take on a big angry devil dog in their further attempts to find a way home. Nice story and art look smashing

Superman Unchained #1

Big, Bold and Wonderful. Looks great and reads like the start of an epic story that is more than likely going to end up an all time classic. Hope it continues like this. Wow!

Manhattan Projects #12

I’m done, I’ve felt like dropping this book a few times and then something hooks me back in, I just struggle to follow some of the high sci-fi concepts and even Einstein torturing someone with a chainsaw is not keeping me in.  Bye Bye.

Green Lantern Corp #21

4 new Green Lanterns are selected, which is always a highlight for me, Larafleeze turns up to do battle against the Corp and John Stewart and Fatality join together to do battle against the Durlans who look set to be the new “big bad”  I’ll keep on with this because as I said, new lantern recruits, what’s not to love.

Nightwing #21

A good strong story as Nightwing gets ever closer to Tony Zucco the man who killed his family. a good read.

Batgirl #21

Pretty chilling tale with Batgirl facing off against the Ventriloquist and her creepy doll

Batman #21

Zero Year: basically a re-imagining of Batman “Year One” I really like the art and the time shifts are compelling and easy to follow, not read a really good Riddler story for a long time, so hopes are high.

Batman li’l Gotham #3

I quite enjoy these Holiday themed stories aimed at kids, a nice Valentines Harley Quinn/ Joker tale with lots of nice cameos
