I’d read the book years ago, but fortunately didn’t remember enough for it to have ruined the story for me. (although as ending unfolded, I did remember it.) This was a pretty tough watch, as was the more famous Irvine Welsh adaptation Trainspotting. Filth follows Robbo, one of the most corrupt cops to have ever graced our screens, whilst his life spirals out of control in a wave of drugs, drink, sex and murder. Come the end though, despite how vile the lead character is, magnificently played by James McAvoy, you feel an almost undeserved sympathy for him. This was a disturbing and at times downright nasty film, but it was good.
