Sunshine On Leith

I’ll put this straight out on front street, I am a fan of The Proclaimers their music speaks to me social, religiously and politically and “Sunshine on Leith” was my first wedding dance.

That said, the movie is nonsense in a good way though. Some of the song and dance routines were ridiculous and a bit cringey, although a good few of them were brilliantly placed and fit well in the story a good few of them felt shoehorned in or signposted from a mile away.

The character of Ronnie the wounded soldier, could have been written out entirely. The scene of them sneaking of to the toilets for a quickie, ruined a good part of the film for me. Peter Mullan was fantastic as was Jane Horricks.

Not a perfect movie, but certainly great fun if you allow yourself to be taken with it.
